Hymie Weiss was born as Earl Wajciechowski. He was born in 1898 in Poland. After he had immigrated to the U.S. with his family, he changed his name. Dion O'Banion was a good friend of Weiss as teenagers. They were car theifs, jewelry robbers and burglars. They worked in the newspaper business and got sold only the papers that they represented. Weiss was O'Banion's right hand man in the "North Siders" gang. The gang was into bootlegging. They had conflicts sometimes with Capone and Torrio. Weiss has been known responsible for making O'Banion's grand booze empire.

Weiss came up with the phrase"a one-way trip." He got that phrase in 1921. Stephen Wisniewsk hijacked some of O'Banion's booze. Weiss took him on a ride along Lake Michigan. On that ride, Weiss whacked him one. That was known as "a one-way trip."

Weiss became the Boss of "The North Siders" after O'Banion was murdered. Weiss made an attempt to murder Capone, but was unsucessful. Capone and Torrio were known for killing the Weiss man's best bud. Weiss made several attempts on the lives of Capone and Torrio. Weiss put Torrio in the hospital, which made Torrio want to retire. Weiss and his men went by "The Hawthorn Inn" in Cicero and fired over 1,000 rounds on September 20, 1926. Only one bodyguard and one innocent woman were hit. Weiss never did get his wish for Capone and Torrio to die.

In October of 1926, Weiss was killed by a Capone hit group. The hotmen were in O'Banion's second floor flower shop...right across from Weiss' headquarters. Weiss had 10 bullets in his body. He was 28 years old.
